Kenya: Strategic Planning and Management (SPM) Training

Strategic planning is the process that helps an organization or an individual define their objectives, values, mission, vision and the way to achieve these. Management on the other hand is the discipline of planning, organizing, motivating and controlling resources to achieve specific objectives and goals.

IDEAL Public Health and Development Consultancy (IPHDC) has organized this interactive training to enable participants to identify and understand the overall trends underpinning the functioning of their organization and how these guide the implementation of specific projects.

By the end of the training, trainees will be able to clearly understand how the framework of a successful strategic plan should be developed and tailored to the specific needs of an organization.

Who should attend this training?
Programme staff of humanitarian and development agencies including project managers, officers and assistants.

What are the key aspects of the training?

  • Introduction to strategic planning and management;
  • Strategic planning process (External input gathering, internal input gathering, vision statement setting, formulating objectives, strategic performance measures/indicators, strategic initiatives, identifying strategic risks and implementing a strategic plan);
  • Strategic management.

What are the main training objectives?
The following objectives are planned to be achieved by the end of the training:

  • To equip trainees with knowledge, skills and practices on strategic planning and management;
  • To introduce trainees to strategic planning and management processes and tools.

What learning approach and language will be used in the training?
An appropriate combination of various adult-learning facilitation paradigms will be used including exploratory learning, group discussions, plenary brainstorming, facilitator’s input, case studies and video documentaries among others. The entire training will be facilitated in English.

When is the training period?
4th to 8th December 2017
